Item description:

From the Pacific Island of Niuafoou 1989 Evolution of the Earth set.  The stamp design shows how the weather including snow and ice from the mountains melted and formed the lakes, rivers and ocean.

This block of 15 contains 10 stamps overprinted SPECIMEN (the outside two vertical rows) and 5 progressive PROOFS (the middle vertical row) which show the various stages in the printing process.  For Tonga stamps, Walsall Security Printers of the United Kingdom would layer one color on top of the next until all the required colors had been done.  The five progressive proofs down the middle vertical row show how the stamps looked at the different stages as the colors were layered together.  So this lot contains 10 stamps overprinted specimen and 5 progressive proofs.  A nice item from the printers archives to show on an exhibit page.

The first color done was yellow, so progressive proof 1 shows how the stamp looked after yellow was done.

The second color done was blue, so progressive proof 2 is blue.

When the blue was layered on the yellow, the result was a yellowish/greenish color, as shown in progressive proof  1 + 2.

The next color added was red, so progressive proof 3 is red.

Progressive proof 1 + 2 + 3 shows the result when red was next layered in.

Too many unregistered letters have somehow gotten lost or stolen when sent to these high risk countries and paypal forces me to refund payment to the buyers even though I have posted their letters. If you pay by moneybookers then registration is not compulsory.
